Nourish your skin from the inside out!

Breakfast smoothies 3 ways

As much as possible I like to eat the way I like my skincare.

Natural. Whole. Nourishing. Delicious.

These are three of my favourite breakfast smoothie recipes, but lets face it they are just as good for lunch or dinner! (Smoothies for dinner is one of the best parts of being an adult)

My general tips when whipping up smoothies are:

  • Too many things does not a good smoothie make! Keep it under 5 ingredients for best results.
  • Pre frozen ripe bananas are a godsend. I buy from a local grocer, when they are quite spotty you can often pick up a bunch at a discounted rate. Peel, break into quarters, pop in a ziplock bag and freeze in flat single layers.*
  • Pre frozen greens cubes are thebomb.com. I like to change up my greens mixture every couple of weeks. Some of my faves are spinach, kale, broccoli (heads + stalks), rainbow chard, celery + cucumber. I tend to use what needs using up! Fill the blender up with greens, dilute with water and blend to a pulp. I use just enough water to blend smoothly. Pour into deep ice cube trays + freeze. Pop the cubes into ziplock bags and keep in the freezer.* I love this tip as greens can go slimy so quickly if you don't use them in time. This way you've got a supply ready whenever you need it!
  • A good blender is worth the investment! And by investment, I don't necessarily mean a huge investment. My dream blender is a Vitamix, but at $1,000 a pop I'm just not there yet! I got my current blender from Aldi for $100 and it works a treat. I've had it for two years and it still demolishes celery + kale like a champ. Keep an eye out for sales and read reviews online to grab a bargain.

Each recipe makes 2 x 500 ml vegan smoothies.

Best Berry

I'll let you in on a secret. My berry smoothies never actually look this good! I add a few greens cubes to all my smoothies and this makes em' all turn a funny brown colour! But I'm totally fine with that when they taste this good. I use a mix of strawberries, raspberries + blueberries, and either oat or rice milk for this smoothie because they are so creamy!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen berries.
  • 1/2 t vanilla paste
  • 3/4 cup plant based milk.
  • 3/4 C water
  • 2 T natural peanut butter
  • 6 greens cubes *optional

Method

  • Throw everything in a blender.
  • Blend, pour, serve.
